SURFING BACKGROUND

Beau grew up in Encinitas and has surfed throughout California, Central America, Baja, and mainland Mexico. Once Beau began to surf alone at a young age, his parents enrolled him into Junior Lifeguard Training to learn water safety which he was a part of for five consecutive years. Beau learned to swim proficiently and perform life-saving techniques through this program.

Family vacations were often spent in Baja where Beau would spend most of his time surfing at San Pedrito and Los Cerritos as a kid. At 12 years old, Beau received his first full suit as a birthday gift and has been surfing daily ever since. As a teen, Beau joined the San Dieguito High School surf team and was exposed to high-level surfing in competitions and free surf.

After high school, Beau would revisit Baja for months at a time and now lives full time in El Pescadero. He enjoys surfing every day at his home breaks, gardening, and strike mission surf trips to undisclosed spots.

"Everyone's surfing experience is unique."

I've found that keeping an open mind helps with surfing progress.

I grew up in an era where we learned to surf one type of board and it became your identity which was very counterproductive looking back. Surfing the right board for the given conditions is almost always the better choice rather than just riding the same equipment in all conditions.

Over time, I have expanded my repertoire of surf craft to include any design or shape as long as it rides. This is important to understand what purpose the board you are riding has for the conditions that day. Sometimes it's more fun (and better practice) to catch more waves on a longer, less responsive board than trying to grovel a 2 ft slope on your shortboard.”
